Racing Rhett!

I am just now getting around to posting pitures from Rhett's birthday party. At least it's still August.
He went back and forth between "Cars" (I'm glad he didn't choose this, since we did that last year), race cars and monster trucks. He finally decided on a "race car" birthday. We just had some of his friends over at the house. We now have more little cars and trucks lying around the floor in my house than I ever thought possible. I just THOUGHT we had a lot before his party!

Scott and Bev got to be here for his party

I made the cake. If you can't tell, the 3 is a racetrack and the green is grass. Not GREAT, but Rhett really liked it.

"Tidbit Tuesday"

I'm starting something new. On some Tuesdays, I will post just a little tidbit or two about each of the kids. Nothing big, but just some things I want to remember. I have no time to scrapbook, so this is a way to sort of keep up with things that I can't scrap or a way to record them for one-day when I can "catch up" a little. You (except maybe the grandparents) will probably not care about these things. It's mostly just for me.

Hollace: A couple of weeks ago we went to a Chinese restaurant and Rhett's fortune cookie said: "You will step on the soil of many countries." Later, Hollace told him, "You're going to go to the country and step on a lot of foil"!

Rhett: JUST this last week Rhett has been wearing big boy underwear all day with NO accidents. I am looking for some wood to knock on as I type. He has nearly been the death of me with the potty-training.

Thad: Has learned a new trick. Gargling with his spit-up! Nice! He does it all the time. Somehow, he keeps it in the back of his throat and gargles. He is SO proud of himself when he does it too.

So there are the tidbits. You should join me. It's a great way to remember things that may not seem like they are post-worthy, but things that you want to remember!

First Day Flashback Friday

I found this picture the other day and thought it would be fun to share this week, since everyone is sharing about the ever-important first day of school. This is me on the first day of Kindergarten. For those of you in Woodward, I was going to Cedar Heights. I remember walking there from my house, where my parents still live. I don't remember if I walked in Kindergarten, but I might have. You could do things then that you can't do now..

How did so much time pass, that I just sent my own daughter to kindergarten??

The Loooong Awaited Day!

Hollace's first "real" day of kindergarten was today. I say "real" because they do a weird "phase-in" thing around here. The first day for everyone else in the county was over 2 weeks ago. (We have "all year school" here. Really just a longer school year with longer breaks during the year). So everyone has been going now for a while except the kindergartners. They each go one half day a week for 2 weeks before they start going everyday. This was a LOOOOONG 2 weeks for Hollace. She was SO ready and excited. She has been asking me everyday, "how many more days until I go to school every day- all day?"

For the "phase-in" days I got to walk her to her class and she only stayed about 3 hours. Today was the first day I had to just drop her off at the door and the first day she stayed ALL day, so this was the first "real" day to us.

Honestly, I didn't think I would be very sad about the big day, because she is SO excited and seems so ready and independent. BUT, it was a little sad dropping her off today, knowing that from now on during the school year she will be gone ALL day! I think I'm going to miss my girl!

(These pictures are not good at all. I'm not sure why they look a little fuzzy/grainy.)

Rhett is going to pre-school 2 days a week and today was his first day too.

Our Tennessee Vacation with the Carpenters

Our GREAT friends, the Carpenters, came to visit and stay with us for 5 days in July. We all went and did some Nashville-ish things while they were here. We hadn't done any of these things yet, so it was like a little vacation for us even though it was here in our own backyard. We had a GREAT time and are SO glad they came to visit! Our kids all had a fantastic time too! Here are some pics of our little vacation.
One night we went to a drive-in movie in Franklin, Kentucky, which is just about 30 minutes away. They play two movies, a kids movie and an adult movie. It was a lot of fun, but didn't start until 8:15, since it has to be dark. It was a pretty late night for us.

This is Bryleigh, Hollace and Rhett on the way home. They all fell asleep during the last movie...except Rhett, he lasted until the 30 min. drive home.

EVERY time Margo and I are together we get asked if we are sisters, or twins. I bet we were asked 6 or 7 times while they were here.
One night we went to the Grand Ole Opry. We had never been and it was a pretty good night to go. Carrie Underwood and Clay Walker were there.
Our seats were way up in the top, but here is Carrie Underwood-if any of you are big fans.

We went for a ride down the Cumberland River on the General Jackson Showboat. It was a dinner and a show which was a tribute to country music through the years.

Hollace and her best friend Brynn. They had SO much fun together.

We also toured a historical plantation, which I took a bunch of pictures of, so I will save that for another post.

6 MONTHS

Thad turned 6 months old last week. I can't believe it! That also means we have been in TN 6 months. WOW, time flies. I have an appointment to get pictures of Thad, so I'll post those later.

He is still rolling ALL over the place, but not crawling yet. He also can't quite sit up by himself, but is close. He weighs 18lbs, 2 oz. and is 27 1/2 inches long. A big, healthy boy. He has his two bottom middle teeth and has the cutest smile! He babbles and talks ALL the time and just LOVES to watch his big brother and sister. I love this age. They are so sweet and it is so fun to watch them learn new things EVERY day.

It is SO bittersweet to watch them grow up! He soon won't even be a baby anymore!! I wish there was someway you could etch these times into your memory. Of course you do remember some, and there are always pictures and videos, but it's just not the same. I want to remember his snuggles, and soft, squishy skin, and loud babbles, and how he feels when he's asleep in my arms, and how he laughs at the silliest little things, and the sound of his little squeel when he gets excited, and how he starts spitting his food out when he's full, and how he kicks his legs so fast to splash the water in the bathtub, and how good he smells after his bath, and how happy I am to see his sweet face first thing in the morning, and I could go on and on, but I'm actually getting teary-eyed!... I LOVE you sweet baby Thad!!
