Tidbit Tuesday

I accidentally added this picture of Brent cutting Thad's hair the other day in the backyard, and I can't delete it for some reason, so enjoy:

Here are a few tidbits about our family lately:

Hollace: She loves to organize people/things, etc. She is always inventing games, organizing projects or clubs, planning events, etc. Her teacher always makes remarks about what a leader she is (Is this teacher code for "bossy"?). Anyway, like I said, somehow she can take anything and make it into some sort of event that necessitates rules, tickets for admission, or a signed waiver! I'm not kidding. This week she has given me a ticket for a fashion show she and the neighbor girl were going to put on later in the week, turned to boys room into an art gallery and tried to charge the boys admission to her "gymnastics" class on the trampoline. I also found this hanging on the wall in the den:
Rhett: Today he had a bit of a tummy ache and decided if he drank some water it would feel better. After the drink he said "It doesn't hurt at ALL anymore! It's almost like I'm a baby again......I mean it's kinda like I just came out of mommy's tummy......I mean like I was never a boy yet.........." I was half listening to this while doing something else, not knowing what in the world he was talking about, but not thinking too much about it. Then Hollace chimed in "Do you mean you feel like brand new?" "YES!" Rhett said, "that's what I meant!" HA!!

Thad: The other night he was crying in his bed because he didn't want to go to sleep. I went in his room to try to settle/quiet him down and he was sitting up slapping and throwing his pillow. "What are you doing, why are you doing that to your pillow?" I asked. "Because it has this stupid cryin' stuff on it and I don't like it!" Ha. The crying stuff was his tears of course!

Brent and I: Earlier this month we went out to a nice French Bistro for date night. Hollace snapped the picture below for us. We tried something for the first time at the insistence of the waitress. She said their Mussels were the chef's specialty and lots of people came there just to get them. We are not picky eaters and we have fish/seafood regularly so we thought, why not? Can I just say "BLEH!!!!"? DISGUSTING!! I was not a fan to put it mildly. Brent ate them though and said he was shocked at me for disliking them so much. Like I said I am very much NOT picky, but those were just down right gross. Gritty, and slimy and chewy and eating an ENTIRE animal! BLEH! Now I have a list of things I WILL NOT EAT: Mussels and.......I think that's about it.

Rodeo Rhett!

Last week Rhett's class was learning all about Texas. The class chose nicknames for each student that they used throughout the week. Rhett's was "Rodeo Rhett". He told me he liked "Radio Rhett" better. I explained that that just didn't sound as "cowboy-ish". He said "Yea it does. Cowboys listen to the radio too!". True I suppose.

They worked on some Texas songs and at the end of the week had a "Texas Hoe Down" where the parents could come see them perform the songs and then they had chili and cornbread. Of course they were suppose to wear their Texan/cowboy/western gear.

How cute is this little cowboy?

(On a little side note: My good digital SLR camera that my Dad gave me is not working right. Something is wrong with the flash. It still works alright if I don't need the flash like in these pictures. BUT it's worthless if I need the flash. I didn't realize just how much I LOVED having a good camera until I didn't. So much more fun to take pictures when they look good!)

Here are some pictures from their little performance. Love how he has his hands in his pockets.

The lighting wasn't great and again........my good camera is....sniff, sniff. Look at the difference in the quality of the pictures!

It was a cute performance, but I have to admit the ONLY song I recognized was "Deep in the Heart of Texas". The others I'm sure were familiar to Texans, but I had to refrain from belting out "OOOOOOO-klahoma where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain......"

My Creative Geniuses!

The kids have had a couple of school projects lately that required them to tap into their creative sides.

Hollace had a big project the whole 2nd grad participated in called the Economics Fair. Each student had to develop a product to sell to all the other students in the school. They had to price, advertise, display and sell the items one day to the other students who came around to shop.

Hollace decided on magnetic clips. We thought they would be great for refrigerators at home and lockers at school. We used craft things I had at home to decorate the clips. She had a lot of fun coming up with some of the decorating ideas.

I thought they turned out pretty cute!

She displayed them on this magnetic board.

Here is the poster she made to hang at her booth/desk.

She decided to sell them for 50 cents, but ended up raising the price after a little while because they were selling so well! Smart girl. She said "shops sometimes have to do that because the demand is so high." Ha. I think she learned something about economics with this little project.

At Rhett's preschool, they have been taking turns rotating through an "invention" center. They get to make anything they want, but have to use the recycled items the teacher has at the center. He was so excited when it was his turn and this is what he came home with.

Can you tell what it is????

Of course............an "Egg Blower". I asked him what it did and his explanation went something like this "You stick an egg in here, then it goes down here then through here. It goes over there and comes out here." with a lot of pointing here and there. I'm not sure where the "blowing" part comes, but it seemed to make sense to him.

So proud of my creative little kiddos!

A Drive-In Movie

The AWANAs program at our church had a Drive-In Movie Night a few Sunday nights ago. The kids were suppose to bring a car made from a cardboard box to sit in to watch a movie and have a snack. Surprisingly, Hollace was the one that was really into this project. Rhett thought his was pretty "cool", but just didn't get into making it like Hollace did. Thad isn't old enough to go, but when we tried to take pictures of the cars, he did not want to get out. So he is in Rhett's car instead of Rhett. He finally let Rhett in the "back seat" for the last picture.
